Time To Play Catch-Up

Looking at the title you might think this blog is about the Yankees. You would be wrong. I don't have much to say about the Bombers, they are .500, it's April, and they haven't yet had the benefit of 12 game home stand that includes the Mariners and D-Rays to make them look better than they are (C'mon, people, it's APRIL!!!!). However, Shawn Chacon is making me look like a blithering idiot. I may have overestimated him a bit, lol...

Anyways, this is my second favorite time of the year. MLB has started up, the NHL Playoffs are starting (glad I have Directv so I can watch them on OLN!) and the NFL draft is next weekend, which is the only day of the year that the pro and college games intertwine, and the only day in the spring that it's ok to wear your Patriots jersey, order take out, and talk football with your friends for 3-8 hours. I honestly enjoy the draft more than the Super Bowl, because it not only involves more teams, but there is no point spread so I don't have to worry about blown calls ruining my time (I'm talking to you Super Bowl XL refs, I haven't forgotten). Although last year's draft was a snooze fest (literally, I fell asleep on my buddy Scotty's couch), this year's already looks intriguing. The Jets, 49ers and Broncos all have multiple picks in the first round, there is no consensus after the number 1 pick, and the Texans trading down is still a possibility. I have an idea I won't be sleeping this year, and more than one "Mel Kiper sucks!" will be uttered from my mouth. Thank god for unlimited cell phone minutes, because my friends who aren't with me will be calling me or will be called by me many times. God bless the NFL...

I was hoping to comment on the National's new ownership group, but amazingly, they still don't have one yet. Their GM Jim Bowden was so upset he got busted for drunk driving in South Florida. Last night they blew a lead to a schizophrenic Phillies team when they could have had a (gasp!) two game winning streak. As soon as someone can tell me why Mike Stanton still pitches in this league send me an e-mail and I will post it on this blog as soon as I get it (bwell316@yahoo.com). He was washed up 3 years ago. This is not a case of Jesse Orosco, this is a case of hanging on too long. On the bright side Ryan Church is crushing the ball and Jose Vidro is healthy. Here's hoping Livan and Patterson can get consistent soon.

OLN will be televising 52 NHL playoff games. For those of you don't have OLN(like Dish Network owners and selected cable outlets), I'm sure you can get the scores online. You can also listen to the games on XM radio. Does anyone else see a problem with this? Is anyone else annoyed that ESPN2 will be showing World Series of Poker and Bonds on Bonds while the Devils play the Rangers? I am not looking forward to this. I really hope that the NHL addresses this TV situation before next season, they are only screwing themselves when you are on a network that isn't available in most every household. Someone get Gary Bettman on the phone...

That's all for now. I hope the first round of the NBA Playoffs lasts less than a month....
