SEA DOGS FINISH OFF A SPLIT WITH THE DEFENDERS

The Sea Dogs used a 2-run error by 2B Brad Boyer to beat the Connecticut Defenders 6-1 on Easter Sunday at Hadlock Field. Portland splits their opening series of the season with Connecticut at two games apiece and host the New Britain Rock Cats on Monday night.

LHP Dustin Richardson (1-0) wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning and pitched three scoreless innings to notch his first win of the season. Richardson fanned four and retired the final seven batters faced. LHP Beny Sndyer (0-1) suffered the tough luck loss for Connecticut, yielding two unearned runs in 2.2 IP. RHP Bryce Cox earned a hold with two scoreless frames and RHP T.J. Large closed out the victory with a perfect ninth.

Portland scored the game-winning run in the fourth inning when 1B Lars Anderson reached on a fielding error by 2B Brad Boyer, allowing SS Iggy Suarez and CF Josh Reddick to score. The 'Dogs added a run in the sixth inning on Reddick's 3rd home run in as many games and added the final two runs in the seventh inning. RF Bubba Bell (2-for-5) gave Portland a 1-0 lead with a solo-homer over the right-field wall in the second inning. 3B Jorge Jimenez belted an RBI triple and Suarez had a sac-fly. Connecticut's lone run came on RF Eddy Martinez-Esteve's run-scoring groundout.

Portland starter RHP Ryne Lawson lasted only three innings on two walks, one hit and one run. Defenders starter Jesse Foppert threw 58 pitchers over 2.1 IP, scattering three hits, three walks but fanned four.

The Sea Dogs open up a 3-game series with the Rock Cats (Twins affiliate) on Monday night at Hadlock Field, game time is 6:00 PM. LHP Felix Doubront will make his Double-A debut for the Sea Dogs against RHP Matthew Fox.

GAME NOTES..The Easter Bunny threw out the first pitch at Hadlock Field...1B Lars Anderson extended his hitting streak to 4-games...The two teams were the only scheduled game on the Eastern League schedule.
