The Maine Red Claws looked to get back to their winning ways Saturday while the Bakersfield Jam came to town in search of just their second win on the season. In the end, the Red Claws dominated most of the game, taking home a 105-82 victory in front a sellout crowd at the Portland Expo Building. The two teams will square off again tomorrow at 5 PM.
Maine scored early and often in the first half, shooting 55% from the field, and took a 59 – 36 lead into the locker room at the half. Maine guard Billy Thomas was hot in the first half, going 3-6 from behind the arc, and finished the game with 14 points. Trey Gilder was the high scorer for the Red Claws on the afternoon, adding 18 points and 5 rebounds to the Red Claws’ tally, but it was Noel Felix took home the Adidas Player of the Game honors, finishing the game with a double-double scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds.
For Bakersfield, Brian Butch, suffering from a stomach virus, finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds, while James Jackson finished with 7 points and 8 rebounds. Amara Sy had 15 points in the third quarter as Bakersfield whittled the Red Claws lead to as close as 10 points towards the end of the third after trailing by as much as 25. Sy would go on to finish with 17 points to lead the Jam.
Two late Trey Gilder free throws put the Red Claws over the century mark late in the fourth. With the 105 – 82 victory, the Red Claws improve to 8-2 while the Jam fall to 1-11.
The two teams will be at it again tomorrow as they face off once again at 5 PM. The game is sold out, the Red Claws fifth consecutive sellout this season.
NOTES: The Red Claws announced Boston Celtics guard Lester Hudson would be recalled to Portland prior to Saturday's Game.
