The American Hockey League announced today that Portland Pirates right wing Mark Mancari was named the *Reebok/AHL Player of the Week* for the period ending Feb. 7, 2010.Mancari notched seven points and a plus-7 rating in three games last week.
Mancari's week started earlier than usual with an 11:00 a.m. faceoff on Tuesday morning, and Mancari responded with four assists and a plus-4 in the Pirates' 6-1 victory over Manchester. On Friday in Providence, Mancari dished out two assists in a 3-0 decision over the Bruins. And on Saturday,he secured his fourth consecutive 20-goal season with an unassisted tally as part of Portland's 4-3 shootout win at Lowell.
In recognition of his achievement, Mancari will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Pirates home game.
Mancari is tied for ninth in the AHL in scoring with 49 points, including a team-high 20 goals, in 49 games for Portland this season. The 24-year-old native of London, Ont., is in his fifth pro season, and has totaled 11 goals and 161 assists for 272 points in 337 games. Mancari participated in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2008 and 2009, and set career highs in goals(29),assists(38)and points(67)with the Pirates in 2008-09. He was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2004 and has one goal and two assists in 11 career NHL games.
