The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they have acquired Maurice Ager, a former first round selection of the Dallas Mavericks, who joins the team from Cajasol Sevilla (Spain-ACB). He was acquired by the Red Claws through the available player pool. The announcement was made by Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings.
Ager, 25, a 6-5 guard out of Michigan State, was drafted by the Mavericks in the first round (28th overall) in the 2006 NBA Draft. He split two seasons between the Mavericks and their NBA D-League affiliates before being traded to the NJ Nets as part of the February 2008 seven-player deal that sent Jason Kidd to Dallas. After appearing in 34 games with the Nets over two seasons, Ager joined Sevilla, leaving the team on January 10.
“Mo Ager is an NBA level talent and we are fortunate to have him playing for us. He adds a great deal of depth and skill to our team,” said Jennings.
A native of Detroit, Ager was a Michigan State teammate of current Red Claw Paul Davis, finishing his MSU career ranked 11th in MSU career scoring (1,554 pts.), fourth in three-point field goals made (202) and third in attempts (532).
Ager will wear #21 and will join the team in time for their upcoming road trip to Dakota and Sioux Falls. Red Claws fans will get their first chance to see Ager in action on February 10, when the Red Claws host the Austin Toros in "Charlotte Bobcats Affiliate Night." Tickets remain for that game and may be purchased by calling 207-210-6655 or online at www.maineredclaws.com.
