BROCKTON ROX TO PLAY GAMES AT THE BALLPARK

The Can-Am League’s Brockton Rox announced that the team will play a two game exhibition series at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach (ME) against the Quebec Capitales on May 22 and 23. As you know, the former home of the Triple-A Maine Guides was saved from the wrecking ball and revived by a determined group of community volunteers. Sweet vindication for their
efforts? We think so.

PRESS RELEASE - The Brockton Rox announced on Thursday that the club will participate in three Can-Am League exhibition games prior to the 2010 regular season.

On Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23, the Rox will travel to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, to face the Quebec Capitales for a pair of games at the town’s recently refurbished stadium, The Ballpark. The games mark the first professional contests at the stadium since 1988, when the Triple-A International League’s Maine Phillies played there. After falling into disrepair upon the departure of pro baseball, The Ballpark Group, an association of local volunteers, has spent the last two years restoring the park to usable condition. Proceeds from the game will go towards funding the group’s continued efforts.

“We’re excited to bring professional baseball back to The Ballpark,” said Chris Carminucci, president of Carminucci Management Company, which organized the exhibition games. “The volunteers in Old Orchard Beach have put so many hours into revitalizing the stadium, and it’s becoming a showcase for all levels of baseball once again.”

Saturday’s game will start at 6:30 p.m., while Sunday’s is at 1:00 p.m. Ticket information for the game will be available in the upcoming weeks.
