The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced that they have released Todd Ford from his tryout agreement.
The veteran goaltender played three games for the Pirates posting a 3-0 record to go along with a 1.33 goals against average and a .958 save percentage. The 25 year-old Calgary, Alberta native will rejoin the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL for their opening round Kelly Cup Playoff series against Cincinnati.
The Pirates complete the 2009-10 Regular Season with their final three games next weekend. The concluding stretch begins Friday on the road in Manchester against the Monarchs at 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on-line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.
The Pirates Regular Season comes to a close with a pair of home games Saturday and Sunday at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Saturday it’s a Labatt Blue Light Hockey Night in Portland when the Pirates take on the Lowell Devils Saturday at 7 p.m. at the CCCC. Join the following friends of Labatt Blue Light and the Pirates before and after the game at Binga’s Stadium ($3 Labatt drafts), Brian Boru ($2.40 Labatt drafts), Frosty Pint ($2.50 Labatt Drafts and Labatt Light bottles) and Spring Point Tavern ($2 Labatt drafts).The first 2,000 fans in to the game will receive a free toothbrush courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental. The Pirates also welcome area Boy Scouts to the game. The Boy Scouts will enjoy a post-game skate, movie on the video board and a sleepover. Salty Pete’s Treasure Chest will be up for grabs filled with over $500 in prizes.
Sunday the Pirates close out the Regular Season in a 4 p.m. game against the Worcester Sharks at the CCCC. It’s PeoplesChoice Credit Union Fan Appreciation Day as select fans will win the shirt right off the back of their favorite player at the end of the game. The UNUM Challenge concludes with the Sharks leading 4-3. It’s USA Hockey Member Appreciation Night.
