Two Daniel Webster College baseball players earned top weekly honors from the New England Collegiate Conference Monday.
Zach Cantor of Windham, Maine (Windham HS) was named NECC “Player of the Week,” while freshman Elliott Kilgore of Milford, N.H. (Milford HS) earned Co-“Rookie of the Week” honors.
Cantor, a junior right fielder, tore up the ball in a three-game set with NECC foe Becker College this past Friday and Saturday as the Eagles took two of three.
Cantor hit .714 (5-7) in the series which included three doubles, four walks, two stolen bases, and two RBI. He slugged 1.143 and had an on base percentage of .818.
Cantor went 1 for 3 in the opener, a 14-3 Eagle win at Becker on Friday, walking twice, stole a base and scored once.
In game two, a 6-5 win on Saturday, Cantor was 3 for 3 with a two-run double and scored once. In the nightcap - a 3-1 loss - he was 1 for 1 drawing two more walks and stole once.
On the season, Cantor is hitting .372 (16-43) in 13 starts with five doubles, two triples and a team high three homers and is slugging .791. He owns an OBP of .451 and has swiped four bases.
Kilgore, a second baseman, hit .500 in the series (4-8) with a double, two RBI and scored two runs. On the base paths, Kilgore was 5 for 6 in stolen base attempts and was perfect in the field with seven putouts and four assists.
Kilgore went 2 for 2 with a RBI, scored twice and stole two bases in the 14-3 Friday win. He added a 1 for 3 game, knocking in one and stole one in the 6-5 Saturday win, and went 1 for 3 with two more steals in Becker’s 3-1 nightcap victory.
Kilgore meanwhile is hitting .417 (10-24) in nine games played (seven starts) with a double and seven RBI, is 7 for 9 in stolen base attempts and is fielding at a .951 clip.
Under the direction of third year head coach J.P. Pyne, the Eagles stand 5-8 overall (2-1 NECC) and return to action on Tuesday when they host Norwich University at 3:30 p.m.
