Auburn's Harmon Named Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week

Senior Matt Harmon (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies men’s outdoor track and field team has been selected as the Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 3, 2011. Harmon’s selection marks the second consecutive week that a USM student-athlete has earned weekly track and field accolades from the conference office. This was the LEC’s second weekly report for the outdoor season.

Competing at the 2011 Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State College this past weekend, Harmon earned an ECAC qualifying mark and set a school record in the hammer throw to highlight a sixth place finish for the Huskies. Harmon had a pair of top five performances for Southern Maine, including a second place finish in the hammer throw.

Harmon earned his ECAC mark with a school record throw of 49.34 meters (161-10.00 feet), breaking his own previous record set during the 2010 season. Harmon also placed fifth for the Huskies in the shot put with a toss of 13.31 meters (43-8.00 feet).

Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) at the Bates College Invitational in Lewiston, Maine.
